Tulsa, OK- Cherokee Casino and Resort is kicking off its annual Oklahoma State Championship of Poker Feb 14-26. With fifteen events and ten ways to become a poker state champ, the best in the Mid-West will be vying for the title, the hefty cash purse, and a 14 carat gold ring valued around $12,000.
Players will compete against more than amateurs and rounders, however. Returning seasoned pro’s will include Scotty Nguyen, Barry Johnston, Jan Fisher and Linda Johnson. Other professionals are subject to arrive. “We’re delighted to have players with a variety of ability. The series features a variety of hold’em and Omaha games including no-limit hold’em, limit hold’em, Seniors no-limit hold’em, ladies no-limit hold’em, team no-limit hold’em, Omaha Hi/Low, pot limit Omaha, H.O.R.S.E., and triple draw lowball. Buy-ins start at $200 and range from $340 for Championship events to $3,150 for the main event.
This is the third Oklahoma State Championship of Poker at Cherokee Casino and a dedicated staff is the moving force of its success. Tony Armstrong, Sr. Manager of Poker and Jimmie Sims, Poker Manager are pivotal influences in the ebb and flow of the poker room and tournaments. “Every year we find something that will make next year even better!” exclaims Jimmie Sims.
