The LA Poker Classic, which takes place at Los Angeles’ famed Commerce Casino, is a month-long celebration of the game. Beginning on Jnaury 24, 2008, this year’s series will feature 30 events with a total prize pool of more than $17 million.

Last year’s LA Poker Classic attracted more than 13,400 poker players. The WPT Main Event in 2007 was won by Eric Hershler. A lawyer by profession, this native of South Africa took home over $2.4 million for his efforts.

In addition to the WPT Main Event, the LA Poker Classic boasts the World Poker Tour’s Celebrity Invitational. Past entrants in that event have included Shannon Elizabeth, ER’s Maura Tierney, Cheryl Hines (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) and Lou Diamond Phillips among others.

On February 14, 2008, Valentine’s Day, the LAPC will host a special Tag Team NLHE tournament in which sweethearts can team up to crush the competition. 22 of the 20 events qualify for a special all-around leaderboard challenge. The top player on that list will receive $50,000 and the title of “Best All Around Player.”
