The LIPS Grand Championship is right around the corner, and women from around the United States are gearing up to play in Las Vegas on Sunday, July 13.  Women have been playing in home leagues, bar leagues and casino leagues for an opportunity to win their way to the tournament.

In Texas, there are leagues in Houston, Austin and Dallas where women are playing regularly to win their way to Vegas.

This year’s tournament will be held at the Orleans hotel, and the weekend will begin with a Champion’s breakfast on Saturday, July 12.  The buy-in for the Championship tournament is $300, and up to 500 women are expected to play in the tournament.   This year’s Championship tournament is part of the 2008 Orleans Open Poker Tournament, July 5 – July 21.

Lupe Soto, founder of the Ladies International Poker Series  and the Women’s Poker Hall of Fame, is very excited about this upcoming championship, and the upcoming 2008-2009 tournament series. 

In the next season, women and men can expect more regional casino tournaments, and specialty NL Hold’em pre-tournament events.  LIPS events have been part of the World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour events.
