Dennis Phillips Hires The Oracle to Coach Him

Deanna Goodson - 12 Sep 2008

Dennis Phillips has the chip lead until the World Series of Poker Main Event resumes play in November. The 53 year old account manager for a trucking company in St. Louis, MO would like to retain the chip lead…and, of course, win the whole she-bang. Recently, it was announced that Phillips decided to retain the services of the Oracle Consulting Firm.

The Oracle Consulting Firm will give Phillips access to Roy “The Oracle” Winston, a professional poker player, who took down the 2007 WPT Borgata Poker Open, and long-time poker coach, Joe McGowan. Phillips says he’s looking “forward to working with Roy & Joe and Oracle Poker Consulting over the next couple of months leading up to the Main Event.” However, Dennis made it clear that “I’m confident in my game and don’t intend to change it.”

Basically, Dennis knows that “you can always learn more.” He is looking not only for help in navigating the final table but also “the many aspects of being in the poker spotlight.” Winston, for his part, mentioned that he and his partner “will be there” with Dennis every step of the way.

So far, Phillip is the first of “The November Nine,” as the remaining players in the WSOP Main Event have come to be known, to seek official representation. Joining Dennis at the final table are players such as Ivan Demidov, David “Chino” Rheem and Peter Eastgate, each of whom has become a PokerStars-sponsored pro too.
