Day 4 of the World Series of Poker Main Event began with 474 players. The action got underway a little late, around 1pm Vegas time. Jeremy Joseph had the lead going in and the young gun carried it all the way ‘til the end of the Day. However, about a third of the field wouldn’t be joining Joseph on Day 5.
At least all the players on Day 4 could console themselves with the fact that they’d at least earn $27,020. Players wasted no time hitting the rail. Before the dinner break more than 250 were lost including two-time Main Event winner Johnny Chan. Also heading to the spectator seats were former chip leader Brian Schaedlich, Robert Mizrachi, Jean-Robert Bellande, Dave “El Blondie” Colclough, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Chris Bjorin, Hasan Habib and Evelyn Ng, one of the last ladies remaining in the event.
The remaining 216 players returned from the dinner break, ready, willing and able to play down to the 189 needed to begin Day 4. As players bagged their chips for the night, Gus Hansen, Allen Cunningham, Kido Pham, Mike Matusow, Hoyt Corkins, Matt Matros, Chip Jett, Jim McManus, and Phil Hellmuth were still in the hunt.
