Since our last update, Ivan Demidov has remained in first place most of the time with Ylon Schwartz shipping some serious cheese his way. The New Yorker spent some time in the top spot and is currently second in chips. He and former chip leader, Dennis Phillips, tussled a couple of times, with Phillips taking the last pot off of the former chess master. Phillips doubled up to remain alive in the match with a pair of aces on the flop.
Also on the downswing is Chino Rheem. The popular professional player has seen his chip stack dwindle. He’s down to 5.9 million of the clay pieces and the short stack at the table with seven players left. Texan Craig Marquis was the first player eliminated. His pocket sevens proved to be no match for Canadian pro Scott Montgomery’s Ad,Qh when the flop came down Ah,10s,7c. The turn yielded a Jd and the river completed an unnecessary straight with a Ks to give Ontario resident the win.
Marquis lasted four hours into the match with blinds at 200k/400k and antes up to 50,000. Shortly thereafter in the same level Kelly Kim hit the rail. Darus Suharto did the honors and players went on break a few minutes later.
The chip counts (as of 4.30 pm local time Las Vegas) look like this:
Ivan Demidov - 40,875,000
Ylon Schwartz - 32,175,000
Peter Eastgate - 21,675,000
Scott Montgomery - 16,400,000
Dennis Phillips - 10,650,000
Darus Suharto - 8,550,000
David Rheem - 5,900,000
Eliminated:
8th -- Kelly Kim -- $1,288,217
9th -- Craig Marquis -- $900,670
