The Commerce Casino has announced that the 2007 California State Poker Championship, an event won by actor Ben Affleck back in 2004 while he was under the tutelage of one Annie Duke, will feature 19 events in total. It occurs from September 4 - 22, 2007.
Last year's winner, Lance Allred, a Pasadena resident, took home over $345,000 for his main event win. Not bad for a dude who went pro less than three years ago.
The Commerce is a breeding place for champs the world over including Jamie Gold, Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari and Tuan Le. Chris Ferguson, Kathy Liebert and Men "The Master" Nguyen have previously cashed in events here, so this should be a great place to catch the pros.
This year's events will feature a final table of just six players. The Ladies Event, which will take place on Saturday, September 15, will give the winner a buy-in to the Ladies Event at the LA Poker Classic next winter. The Main Event is expected to pay out over $300,000 again this year. There will be several $540 buy-in satellite events held at the Commerce for those who want to win their way into the Main Event on September 22nd at a bargain-basement rate.
