Brandon Cantu won his first WSOP bracelet in 2006. Since then, he’s gone on to cash at the Aussie Millions, the Wynn Classic and multiple WPT events. However, he hadn’t had a big win since the $757,839 first place finish in the WSOP NLHE contest from June 2006 the netted him the bracelet.
Well, not until now. Cantu walked into the final table with a big chip lead. He was confident of his chances despite the fact that folks like John “The Razor” Phan and Jennifer Harman were breathing down his neck trying hard to overtake the lead. Cantu eliminated Harman, the only woman and ‘shooting star’ at the final table, in third place. This was Cantu’s sixth bounty of the tournament. He had previously taken out JC Tran, Bill Edler, Phil Laak, John Juanda and Joe Hachem.
As heads-up play began, Cantu had more than a four to one chip lead over Sung. It took only 16 hands for him to dispatch Sung in second place.
Here are the results:
1) Brandon Cantu - $1,000,000
2) Steve Sung - $585,000
3) Jennifer Harman - $330,000
4) Noah Jefferson - $265,000
5) Mike Baker - $200,000
6) John Phan - $135,000
