The World Poker Tour recently completed its run in Barcelona. The non-televised event may not have garnered much publicity but the WPT Barcelona series sure wasn’t lacking in talent. WSOPE Main Event winner, Annette Obrestad, took third place in a preliminary event, a Pot Limit Omaha competition. Obrestad, who recently learned how to play the game, earned more than $25,700 for her efforts and proved that she can quickly adopt a winning strategy to any brand of poker.
The Championship event of the WPT Barcelona was no less star-studded. Obrestad, of course, was also in attendance as was Finnish players Patrik Antonius and Juha Helppi, Spain’s own Carlos Mortensen and WPT spokesperson Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari.
A total of 253 players entered the Main Event. In the end, Danish player Casper Hansen (no relation to Gus or Thor we’re told) won the tournament. Hansen, who also made the final table of the EPT Dublin event in 2007, earned more than $650,000 for the win as well as his first World Poker Tour title.
These are the final results:
1) Casper Hansen - $655,720
2) Stefan Mattsson - $346,621
3) Thiago Nishijima - $176,934
4) Andres Vidal - $137,703
5) Guy Sitbon - $118,166
6) Martin Lundenius - $98,157
