TULSA, Okla. -More great poker action is available for regional poker players looking to hone their skills in live play. Cherokee Casino Resort is adding the Mid South Poker Classic to its already impressive line-up of tournaments. The inaugural 20-event tournament begins May 15 at the popular Tulsa casino and resort, which is also the gaming ground of the legendary Scotty Nguyen.

The announcement comes right on the heels of one of Cherokee Casino Resort’s most successful tournaments, the Oklahoma State Championship of Poker, held in February, which boasted record-breaking entry numbers in most events for that tournament.

“Our poker tournaments keep getting bigger and bigger,” said David Stewart, CEO of Cherokee Nation Enterprises, which operates Cherokee Casinos. “We know that regional poker players are looking for better competition, more opportunities and more convenient locations to play poker. We are able to offer them that.”

The Mid South Poker Classic begins Thursday, May 15, with the final table taking place on Monday, May 26. The daily tournaments include Jack & Jill, No Limit Hold ‘em, Limit Hold ‘em, Omaha Hi/Lo Split, No Limit Hold ‘em Tulsa Sports Charity Bounty, a Senior and Ladies No Limit Hold ‘em, No Limit Hold ‘em 6-Handed and Pot Limit Omaha. Buy-ins range from $120 - $550, including the entry fee.

The Championship No Limit Hold ‘em Main Event begins on Sunday, May 25, at 1:00 p.m. with play continuing on Monday, May 26, at 1:00 p.m. Buy-in is $1,000 with an $80 entry fee.

Single table satellites begin on May 1 with buy-ins of $45, $85, $125 and $230.

If you haven’t traveled to Cherokee Casino Resort before, be ready for the most comfortable poker room in the mid-South with more than 30 live action poker tables and an expansive grand ballroom dedicated for tournament play. The poker room is also host to the national Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge each year in November.

On an 80,000 square feet gaming floor, the resort features more than 1,500 electronic games. Guests can enjoy a variety of dining options with four unique dining venues including the Vegas-style Wild Potato Buffet, the award-winning McGill’s, Ante Pasta Italian Grill and Sidewalk Café. Cherokee Casino Resort regularly features entertainment acts every night of the week in one of the casino’s three entertainment venues each with a different flair, including a rustic stage and dance floor, a sophisticated piano lounge, and an expansive bar with stage.

And just in time for golf season to kick off, Cherokee Casino Resort offers great golf packages at Cherokee Hill Golf Club.  This championship 18-hole, 70-par golf course is spread out over 172 acres behind Cherokee Casino Resort and features tree-lined fairways, rolling greens, challenging bunkers and an exceptional blend of aesthetics, all with breathtaking views of Tulsa’s skyline.
