Event #14 at the 2008 World Series of Poker was a $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud Tournament. 158 of the world’s toughest poker players, mostly professional, took to the felt in this tournament, bringing the total prize pool up to $1,485,200.

Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu narrowly missed the final table in this event. Negreanu, playing under the Poker Stars’ banner, went out in 11th place, earning $33,417 for his efforts. Ivey, a member of Team Full Tilt, was one shy of the final table. His ninth place finish was good for $37,130.
Erik Seidel, winner of eight World Series of Poker bracelets and runner up in the 1988 WSOP Main Event (a feat made famous in the flick “Rounders”), made the final table and finished in fourth place. Seidel, who used to frequent the Mayfair Club in NYC with the likes of Dan Harrington and Howard Lederer, received $92,825 in this event.

Alexander Kostritsyn, a young Russian poker player who defeated Seidel heads-up to take down the 2008 Aussie Millions Main Event, made it all the way to third place. The baby-faced Kostritsyn received $163,372 as the highest professional player to finish in the tournament.

In the end, Fu Wong battled it out with Eric Brooks. Brooks, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, emerged victorious. Upon receiving his bracelet, Brooks admitted that he “did not expect to win.”

These are the final standings:

1) Eric Brooks - $415,856
2) Fu Wong - $259,910
3) Alexander Kostritsyn - $163,372
4) Minh Ly - $118,816
5) Erik Seidel - $92,825
