Foxwoods Resort & Casino, located in lovely Ledyard, Connecticut, boasts a fantastic WPT poker room. I should know - I've played there. Each year, the poker world looks forward to the WPT's Foxwoods Events. Why? They're always exciting. They draw in some of not only the East Coast's best players but the brightest card sharps in the world.

Foxwoods is also the place where new stars have been born such as a Yale grad named Matt Matros. Maybe you've heard of him?

This year's World Poker Finals are in full swing. The festivities began on October 28th. Sure, the Main Event has yet to be played, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been excitement a-plenty already. For those of you keeping track, the Main Event starts on November 12th and runs through the final table, which will be televised as part of the WPT's next season, on the 16th.

Here is a rundown of some of the highlights of the World Poker Finals thus far.

• Lily Elviro, aka Mrs. Grinder, placed third in the Ladies No-Limit Holdem Event. She earned almost $10k for the effort - the prize pool only topped out at around $100k for the entire event. My poker-playing friend, Tracy Becker, finished in 23rd place and almost tripled her buy-in. You go, girls!
• Not to be outdone by the missus, Absolute Poker's own, Mike "The Grinder" Mizrachi cashed in the No-Limit Holdem Shootout event on Halloween! He followed that up with a 9th place finish in the Limit Holdem Event on November 5th. Mizrachi has about 1,500 player points over his nearest competitor, Shannon Schorr in the Cardplayer POY race.
