The second year of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour will draw to a close this Thursday (4th December) when the £75,000 Champion of Champions tournament takes place the G casino in Luton. The only way to qualify for the tournament was to win any event on the 2008 GUKPT (main events, side events, online festival events and online monthly leagues). A total of 93 players have bagged their seats, for a chance to become the GUKPT Champion of Champion, the lion’s share of the prize money and the bragging rights that go with winning such a prestigious and exclusive tournament.
Players will start with varying chip stacks, depending on the size of the buy in of the tournament they won to qualify for it. Players who have won more than one event will receive more starting chips. Sam Trickett, who is the only player to have won three events on the 2008 starts with 20,000 chips and has been installed as the 12/1 favourite to win by tour sponsor Blue Square. To place a bet, please visit the ‘Specials’ section of the Blue Square Sportsbook.
Play starts at 2pm. Any player who has not taken their seat by the end of the third level of play will have their remaining chips removed from play and will be disqualified from the tournament (players who are running late and have informed the casino of their continued intention to play will not be removed from the tournament). It is a one-day tournament and will run on a 45-minute clock.
Another ground-breaking feature of the event is that players will be given the chance to choose the payout structure for the tournament. Two options will be given to them and any player who is seated for the start of the tournament will be given a chance to vote on their preferred payout structure. No further deals or savers will be permitted and all prizes will be paid into Blue Square accounts.
