Jimmy Morgan, GUKPT Online Qualifier of the Year? (credit: GUKPT)

Jimmy Morgan has already won 7 seats to the GUKPT through online satellites on Blue Square Poker.

According to Blue Square Poker, the GUKPT's sponsor last year’s GUKPT online qualifier of the year was Chris Bruce. Chris qualified online a total of nine times during the year. He converted these qualifications into one final table appearance (Manchester) and two other money finishes, including one in which he went out in tenth, just missing out on the final (Walsall).

This year the race to be the 2008 GUKPT online qualifier of the year already has a clear favourite. While several players have won three or four satellite packages, James Morgan has now won a total of seven seats. Two months ago ‘Scouse’ Jimmy, as he is known, finished just two places outside of the prize money at leg 2 of the tour and at this point he had never qualified online. However, this near miss must have spurred him on, as the following day he won his first online satellite to the GUKPT. A few days later he won another. The following week he notched up his third victory, this time in the $2.50 bargain bumper satellite. During the week following the leg at the Vic, he added another two satellite packages to his tally, including winning the reunion tournament for those who attended the London event. He has since won two further seats, taking the total number of packages he has won up to seven and it has taken him just seven weeks to do it. He has now won enough seats to play in all the remaining £1,000 legs of the tour. However, he intends to win more. If he wins three more packages, he can combine them and use them for the £3,000 Grand Final. If his current form continues, who would bet against him doing just that?

Jimmy is a lively player and is always fun to watch when he plays live. At the Walsall leg of the tour, after being moved tables, he greeted his new tablemate Yucel Eminoglu in the following way

“I hear they call you the Mad Turk, well meet the Mad Scouser.”

They got on famously.
