Leg 3 of the 2008 Blue Square Poker GUKPT is underway. The festival started on Saturday March 1st with a £500 Double chance NL Hold'em freezeout in which New Zealander Richard Grace defeated a field of 105 players to take down the £18,750 first prize.
The £500 Double Chance Pl Omaha event on Sunday 2nd was won by Blue Square Poker sponsored pro Karl Mahrenholz. Karl won £12,750 in this 66 runner event in which Marc Goodwin finished in 2nd place. Monday's £300 NL Holdem Freezeout was won by Faton Prokupla who fended off a field of 165 players to take down the £17,320 first prize. There were 152 players for Tuesday's £500 NL Holdem Freezeout and 19 of these have returned for the second day of the tournamnent. The overnight chip leader is Neil Channing on 177,000 chips, but Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliot and GUKPT double winner Julian Thew are not far behind.
Seats are selling quickly for the main event and a near capacity field (400) is expected. The first of the two starting days is on Thursday 6th March and play starts at 2pm. Amongst those who are already booked in to play are last year's London GUKPT winner Leo Kam, Grand Final winner Michael Ellis, Dave Ulliot, and Mickey Wernick.
Several top Euopean players are also expected, It is also rumoured that Elvis will be entering the building, in the shape of Pol Astaniotis, who will be dressed as his alter ego Evil Elvis. Lets just hope there's a little less conversation and a little more action at the tables.
