Neil Channing is having quite the time of it lately. The British poker pro, who won the PaddyPowerPoker Irish Poker Open in March, earning more than €800,000, has done it again. This time, Channing led his team to victory at the Party Poker Nations Cup. Joining Channing on the team were captain Roland De Wolfe, Joe Beevers, Ian Frazier, Surinder Sunar and online qualifier Francis Durbin.
Six teams in total represented their nations (Germany, Sweden, Denmark, US, Ireland and England) in the Party Poker Nations Cup. Despite being stacked with a bunch of talent, Team USA, which featured Chad Brown, Robert Williamson III, Chris Ferguson, Jamie Gold, Thomas Keller and Montel Williams, headed to the rail first. They were followed by Team Sweden, which was defending its title. Germany took fourth position and Holland narrowly missed the money, but team captain Marcel Luske admitted that he and his countrymen were pleased to participate in the world-class event.
England faced Ireland in a fantastic match-up. England was behind in chips, but battled back. Channing defeated Irish poker legend Donnacha O’Dea heads-up to take the trophy for England. They won the event in 2006. Upon winning, Captain De Wolfe said, “In many ways it is even better to win a team event for your country than win an individual title. I am so proud that the selections of my team were vindicated.”
The Party Poker Nations Cup will air on Channel 4 later in the year. Vicky Coren, Joe Beevers, Jamie Gold and Padraig Parkinson will all take turns commentating on the event.
