Thackerville, OK - Jim Carroll of Richardson, TX won Winstar World Casino’s $3 million guaranteed “The River” Poker Championship Sunday, August 23. He cashed $700,000 for his first place finish in a field of 1,450 entrants and also took home a custom made $20,000 bracelet for his play. “I knew I could win it! The staff was great, the tournament was well run and it all gave me a good feeling,” Jim explained when asked if he expected to win.

Carroll took first over poker professional Young Cho after a vicious thirty minute battle. They entered into heads up virtually even in chips and it ended after Carroll hit top pair and caught Cho in an all-in bluff.  Carroll described his move, “He’s a better player than me so I knew I had to change it up. I felt good about that hand.”

“The River” Poker Championship held a series of satellites and mega-satellites leading up to the main event and they are being televised on ABC affiliates in the Oklahoma and Dallas/Fort Worth areas. Professional players such as TJ Cloutier, Kido Pham, Tex Barch, and Dr. Bruce Van Horn all came in for a piece of the action while Greg Raymer and Annie Duke were commentators. Jay Wiles, Poker Room Manager said “This is the largest guaranteed tournament in the state of Oklahoma. We want the best for the players and will continue to provide them with the best we can offer.”
