Juanda Takes Chip Lead into Final Day of WSOPE Main Event in 2008

Deanna Goodson - 2 Oct 2008

John Juanda began Day 4 of the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event as the chip leader. The Indonesian-born player who makes his home in Los Angeles has three World Series of Poker bracelets, a World Poker Open title and has made six World Poker Tour final tables but has yet to win a WPT championship. A former door-to-door Bible salesman, Juanda’s total live tournament earnings exceed $7,000,000. A member of Team Full Tilt, he’s also in possession of a speed poker title from the Aussie Millions from 2006.

Juanda is truly a player’s player. He’s earned the respect of the poker world with his savvy play, his grit and intelligence. He’s cool under pressure and he is able to play with a short stack as well as a big stack. The guy is fierce.

He carried his chip lead to the end of Day 4 and watched as big name players such as Mel Judah (21st place), Erik Seidel (19th place) and Mike Matusow (18th place) hit the rail. Juanda is sitting in seat 5 with 1,349,000 chips. Next to him is Ivan Demidov, one of the November Nine. Demidov is in good position with 1,006,000 chips. Also in the thick of things are PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu, a Day 1 chip leader, with 1,002,000 chips and Scott Fischman in Seat 8 with 732k remaining in his stack.

Here are the seating arrangements and chip counts:
