WSOP 2008 Results – Event #29

Serena DaSilva - 19 Jun 2008

John Phan has made several final tables at the World Series of Poker. He's been a runner-up twice on the World Poker Tour. The 35 year old Vietnamese native entered the back nine of the twenty-ninth event at the 2008 WSOP in the middle of the chip stack pack. Phan, aka the Razor, eliminated the only woman from the final table Thuyen Doan. Doan went all-in with pocket sixes and saw her hopes for a bracelet crushed when Phan made a pair of jacks on the flop. Doan received nearly $70,000 for her efforts.

Phan then KO'd the next two players. Stewart Newman had Phan dominated pre-flop with a K,Q. However, Phan's K,J caught broke a jack on the flop. David Singer's goal of winning a second title in this series were shot when Phan made two-pair, kings and threes on a lucky flop. Singer received $112,641 for fifth place.

Johnny Neckar eliminated the third-place finisher, Matt Vengrin, the Day 2 chip leader, to face Phan heads-up. Phan had the slight advantage as heads-up play began. However, more than six hours passed before the seasoned pro would be able to put away the youngster from Madison, Wisconsin.

These are the final results:

1) John Phan - $434,789
