Julian Thew has two Grosvenor UK Poker Tour titles and is the winner of the 2007 European Poker Tour (EPT) Baden event. The Nottingham resident was having a less than eventful World Series of Poker this summer. However, on July 13, 2008 Thew, who is sponsored by online casino William Hill, took first place in The Venetian’s Deep Stack Extravaganza NLHE Main Event.

The $5,000 buy-in tournament had 173 entries and a total prize pool of more than $809,000. Boston resident, Christopher Tryba, who finished 14th in the Seven Card Stud event at the 2008 WSOP (Event #35), came in second and receive nearly $150k for his efforts.
