Wintermans Takes Down WPT Canada Tournament

Serena DaSilva - 16 May 2008

The first World Poker Tour Canada Main Event ended earlier this week. 302 players bought into the $3,000 CAD entry-free tournament, which was held at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, British Columbia. The Coast to Coast Poker Championships, as the event was called, drew in numerous poker pros such as Kenna James, Antonio Esfandiari, Brad “Yukon” Booth and Gavin Smith.

By the end of Day Two, six players remained, ready to play it out in the televised final table which will air on Canadian TV later this summer. 35 year old Keith Wintermans, a software consultant who finished seventh at the Johnny Chan Poker Classic, also held at River Rock, last year, was the last man standing in the event. Wintermans, who has three WSOP cashes, said after his win, “Taking down first place this year feels even better because I was on the short stack for a lot of the tournament.”

When asked what he’d do with his winnings, he replied, “I’ll put most of it away for a rainy day.” Wintermans earned $224,100 CAD for his efforts.

Here are the final table results:

1) Keith Wintermans - $ (CAD) 224,100
2) Patrick Mccaw  - $ (CAD) 139,525
3) Tyler Hamade - $ (CAD) 86,675
4) Chris Chang - $ (CAD) 71,875
5) Tyler Patterson - $ (CAD) 56,655
6) Nigel Vonas - $ (CAD) 46,510.00
