The winner of the first Chile based Latin American Poker Tour is also the first Latin American to win a LAPT title – Fabian Ortiz.
Fabin Ortiz certainly wasn’t the only Latin American playing in the Latin American Poker Tour, but there were enough non- local poker players and pros playing that having a Latin American win the event was not a fore gone conclusion. On Thursday Fabian snagged a $141,426 prize, thanks to his victory over a 215 player field.
Humberto Brenes (CHAAAAARK!) and Andre Akkari, both members of the Poker Stars Pro team, stood in Fabain’s way but could not stop him.
The $2,500 event drew 215 players, resulting in a total prize pool of $523,800, paying out a cash prize to the top 27 players. The top nine players were:
1: Fabian Ortiz -- $141,426
2: Vincenzo Gianelli -- $78,570
3: Damian Sala -- $52,380
4: Laendro Balotin -- $39,285
5: Hernan Villa -- $28,809
6: Fabio Escobar -- $23,571
7: Jyries Saba -- $18,330
8: Eduardo Camia -- $13,095
9: Jamie Ateneloff -- $10,476
Fabian is the latest LAPT champ but there are more to come. It is not yet known if he will travel to the next stop on the tour, Punta del Este in Uruguay, which will take place March 18 to March 20.
