Vega Promotional Systems is launching the first-ever Latin America Poker Tour (LAPT) in 2008. The tournaments will be structured as invitationals with people winning their way in from all over the world via online as well as local satellites. Tourneys are planned for locations such as Puerto Rico, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. An end-of-season Tournament of Champions (TOC) will crown the best poker player in Latin America.
Vega will be executive producer of the series and air it throughout the region. They own 100% of the programming and are actively negotiating for airtime with a major cable provider. Earlier this week, they announced that John Cofhlin has signed on as Tournament Director of the LAPT. Cofhlin has 18 years experience in the industry, having worked with the WPT and EPT as well as for companies such as Harrahs, Grand Casino and MGM Mirage.
Cofhlin is excited to help bring “a major Poker Tour to a market that has been so supportive and instrumental in the poker boom worldwide.” He has high hopes that the LAPT will “make the industry more accessible and allow a lot of players to pursue their dreams.”
Vega promises to release more information about the LAPT as it becomes available.
