SNPC IV Gives Us Six More Champs

Perry Calton, of Lawton, OK, was last man standing in the 11 am, $300+30 Limit Hold’em event Sunday, November 4, during the “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV”, at the Cherokee Casino, in Tulsa. “Woo Doggie!” exclaimed the happy survivor.

119 entered for the chance at the $29, 360 prize pool, trophy and $5,150 Championship Event seat. Perry forced his way through the crowd and ended up first taking home $11,714. Funny guy Perry shook up the table with his humor. At one point after a two-outer suck out, he told an opponent, “The next time you’re talking to the poker god’s, put in a good word for me!”

297 Seniors paid to play in the $120 buy-in NLHE championship at the Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV on Monday November 5, 2007. The festivities got underway at 6pm local time sharp. The total prize pool was a tasty $26,730 with $8,556 going to the top finisher, Johnny “Blaze” Short, a Missouri resident.

Earlier in the day on the 5th, another champ was crowned at the SNPC IV. Todd Laviolet of Fort Worth led a final table chock-full of Texans to victory. 235 entrants paid their $230 to play in the No-Limit Hold’em event with a total prize pool of $39,500 and a cruise added for good measure. He earned over $12,000 for his effort.

Jim Williams took the top spot at the $230 buy-in, Omaha Hi-Lo, aka eights of better, event on Tuesday November 6, 2007. 182 entrants sat down to play when the tournament director announced “shuffle up and deal.” Only 18 of those cashed. Patricia Quinlan of Lenexa, KS was the runner-up in the event and the highest finisher among the ladies.

At 6pm on the sixth, the No-Limit Hold’em Bounty tournament took place. $150 + $25 earned some 246 folks the privilege to play in this rock ‘em, sock ‘em, knock ‘em out event. 27 cashed including Todd Laviolet, the winner of the previous day’s $230 buy-in NLHE tournament. He added an additional $221 to his take for his twelfth place finish. Oklahoma was well-represented at the final table with only two non-natives sitting in on the action.

Six-handed hold’em is becoming quite popular…and why not? The short-handed version of NLHE is fast, furious and a heck of a lot of fun. It’s no surprise that the $330 buy-in event at the SNPC IV tempted nearly 200 folks to enter the fray. The prize pool shot up to an impressive $31,520 with over $11k going to the first-place finisher, a young man from Illinois, Eric Crain.
