Party Poker held its second German Open in London at the very beginning of December. Pros such as Thomas “The Buzzer” Bihl, Eddy Scharf and Michael Keiner (winner of a WSOP bracelet in 2007) were in attendance along with celebs like rapper Sido, ex-footballer Thomas Strunz and musician Klaus Baumgart. They all joined German-speaking internet qualifiers in this tournament.
As the final table got underway, Benjamin Kang, Rino Mathis and femme phenom Soraya Homam represented for the professional players. Kang finished in sixth position. Mathis took fifth place, and Hamam made it all the way to three-handed play. The final two combatants were a factory worker by the name of Marco Joos and a computer science Ph.D. candidate, Kristijan Dragicevic.
Dragicevic had qualified for the event online. He began heads-up play with about a 3-to-1 chip lead over Joos. However, by the time the final hand came down, Joos had pulled ahead. Upon winning the event, Joos said, “I won more in one heat of poker than I earn in a year at the factory…this money will change my life.”
Here are the results:
1) Marco Joos - $103,342
2) Kristijan Dragicevic - $62,005
3) Soraya Homam - $41,337
4) Andre Kannler - $20,668
5) Rino Mathis - $9,301
6) Benjamin Kang - $5,167
