McEvoy Wins WSOP Invitational

TourneyBlog Staff - 2 Jun 2009

The World Series of Poker was created to find the best poker players in the world (and drive some business Benny Binion’s way) and the tradition gets an update with the 2009 World Series of Poker Champions Invitational.

The winner, Tom McEvoy, not only became the champion’s champion with his victory, but he also picked up a hot ride – a 1970 Corvette Stingray.

The event was played by 20 Main Event champions, all hoping to beat out their peers, win the car, and the Binion’s Cup – the first of its kind.

McEvoy won the WSOP Main Event in 1983, picking up half a million dollars. There were only 108 players that year, so his victory today helped reestablish McEvoy as a powerful poker player. The final table had players like current WSOP champ Peter Eastgate, Huck Seed, Berry Johnson, Carlos Mortensen and the Godfather himself, Doyle Brunson.
