Nam Le Nabs Nearly Half a Million Dollars at APPT Macau High Roller Tournament

Eddie Sabat won the Asian Pacific Poker Tour Macau Main Event and nearly half a million USD. However, the tournament series was not quite finished once Sabat collected his trophy and his check. With a $19,000 buy-in, the High Roller Event attracted the crème de la crème of the poker world and some new to the game such as Charles Chua. Chua, nicknamed “Chuck the Truck” for his impressive pummeling of many of the final table players in the APPT Main Event, turned around from his runner-up showing and bought into the High Roller Event.

Chua, who hails from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, matched Liz Lieu’s impressive feat of last year. She made the final table in both the Main Event and High Roller Tournament as did Chua. Joining Chua in the final table were two-time WSOP Main Event champion Johnny “The Orient Express” Chan, Ivan Tan, runner up from last season’s Macau Main Event, WSOP bracelet winner Quinn Do and one of the most successful tournament players of all time, Nam Le. Obviously Chua had a tough road to hoe if he wanted to win this event.

Chua did outlast Johnny Chan, who finished in seventh place, earning $51,282, before succumbing in fourth position. Quinn Do took a bad beat when his pocket tens were defeated by the A,10 of the Australian Andrew Scott. The former blackjack player and action junkie sent Do, a former student of criminology, to the rail in third place. Despite the chip infusion, the 39 year old was at a chip disadvantage against the 28 year old cousin of fellow pro player Tuan Le.

In the end, Nam, who won the 2006 Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge II, claimed victory and the nearly $475,000 first place prize.

This is how the final nine fared:

1) Nam Le - $474,358
2) Andrew Scott - $269,230
3) Quinn Do - $153,384
4) Charles Chua - $115,384
5). David Steicke - $89,743
6) Wei Will Ma - $64,102
7) Johnny Chan - $51,282
8) Ivan Tan - $38,461
9) Van Marcus - $25,641
