Slade Takes Title at PartyPoker European Open IV

Serena DaSilva - 13 Feb 2008

Nick Slade, a pro poker player from Preston, Lanchashire in the United Kingdom, earned the biggest score of his life over the weekend. The 45 year old has cashed in several EPT events prior to winning the Party Poker European Open IV. The victory is sweet vindication for Slade who contemplated quitting the game last year after his wife sustained a debilitating neck injury.

Despite starting the final table fourth in chips, Slade prevailed. En route to the title, he bested a tough group of players including reigning WSOPE Main Event Champ, Annette Obrestad, Finnish pro Juha Helppi and former European Open winner Ian Frazer.

The tournament, which featured a $7,000 buy-in, will be featured on Channel 5 in the UK later this year. As a Party Poker spokesperson said, “we congratulate him [Nick Slade] on his win and after all he has been through we hope this is a new dawn for him and his family.”

These are the final results:

1) Nick Slade - $200,000
2) Craig Burgess - $100,000
3) Ian Frazer - $50,000
4) Annette Obrestad - $30,000
5) Josh Tyler - $25,000
6) Juha Helppi - $20,000
