WSOP Ratings Up in 2008

Deanna Goodson - 14 Nov 2008

Despite our bellyaching about whether the postponement of the World Series of Poker Main Event final table was good for the game or not seems to be a moot point because…it was good for ratings. On Thursday, ESPN announced that Tuesday’s broadcast of the final table earned them a 1.9 rating. That means 46% more people watched in 2008 than they did in 2007.

Translated into viewership this is something like 1.9 million more homes and 2.3 million people saw Peter Eastgate defeat Ivan Demidov heads-up than Jerry Yang defeat Tuan Lam heads-up.

Overall the 2008 WSOP schedule saw a viewership increase by more than 900,000 homes and 1.2 million people.

Obviously, poker’s not dead, people. Not by a long shot...and I guess we'll continue to have a delayed Main Event final table!
