Ivey Leads Hellmuth and Rest at LAPC Championship

Serena DaSilva - 28 Feb 2008

The final table of the 2008 LA Poker Classic Main Event is set. The table is stacked with poker talent. Holding the chip lead is Phil Ivey. Ivey, who many call the best NLHE player in the world, has an impressive poker resume which includes 8 WPT final tables. Amazingly enough Ivey has yet to win a WPT Main Event.

Will this be Ivey’s time to shine on the WPT? We think that’s a safe bet. Smart money is usually on the talented multi-WSOP bracelet holder who many call “The Tiger Woods of Poker.”

Standing in Ivey’s way is none other than 11 time World Series of Poker winner Phil Hellmuth. Hellmuth, aka “The Poker Brat” is third in chips. This is his third WPT final table. A logical and tight-aggressive player, Hellmuth is never to be counted out.

Neither is Nam Le. Le, who makes his home in Huntington Beach, CA, has nearly $4,000,000 in lifetime tournament earnings to date. This includes a WPT title. He took down the Main Event at the 2006 Bay 101 Shooting Stars tourney.

Rounding out the top six are tournament newcomer Scott Montgomery, Quinn Do, who took 29th place at the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Classic in December 2007 and Charles Moore.

Play resumes Thursday afternoon.
