Winners from First Six Events at Nguyen Poker Challenge IV

Jason Mitchell and his wife Lynda, outlasted 305 other teams in the $100+20 No-Limit Hold’em “Jack ‘n Jill” event to kick-off the fourth annual “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge”, at the Cherokee Casino and Resort.

The Mitchells, from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, amassed $8,502 for 1st Place. “We’ve had so much fun. This is just great!” exclaimed Lynda as she stood up from the table as a champion.

The “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge”, November 1-20, is projected to draw record-breaking numbers of players with a main event prize pool exceeding $2,000,000. Among those likely to return are Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, Todd Brunson, Mike Sexton, and of course, Scotty Nguyen.

Scott Shearer, of Bryant, AR, overtook the to win the 6pm, $100+20 No-Limit Hold’em event Friday, November 2 during the “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV”, at the Cherokee Casino, in Tulsa. “I’m happy… and ready to play some more cards!” declared the proud winner, hugging his wife.

Scott collected $13,866 for his efforts in a brutal battle to the top. “I’m glad I didn’t chop earlier. This is much better!”

So far the numbers are up and buy-in’s are down at the Nguyen Poker Challenge. "We’ve already had 1,452 entrants into the first three tournaments,” reports Tony Armstrong, Sr. Manager of Poker.

Edward Lackey, of Union, MO, beat the competition in the $100+20 No-Limit Hold’em event Friday, November 2 during the “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV”, at the Cherokee Casino, in Tulsa. “I’m tired and excited at the same time!” beamed the new champion.

Edward cashed in $13,866 for first in a long and tiresome battle. “Now I can play in the Championship Event!”  He said as the trophy was brought out for him.

Charles “C.W.” Walker, of Humboldt, KS, shoved his way into first in the 11 am, $300+30 No-Limit Hold’em event Saturday, November 3, during the “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV”, at the Cherokee Casino, in Tulsa. “Heads up. That’s my game,” said a smiling winner.

C.W. won $29,240, a seat into the Championship Event and a trophy. “I was aggressive,” explains the champ, and he was. He went all in 22 hands out of 101.

“I’m going to go home and get some rest. But I will be back for sure.”

Lee Ann Hammond, of Farmersville, TX, had a powerful force that won her the 6 pm, $200+30 No-Limit Hold’em event Saturday, November 3, during the “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV”, at the Cherokee Casino, in Tulsa. “My kids are going to have a good Christmas!” she said pulling in the last of the chips.

Lee Ann won $17,901, for her achievement. Image Masters took her winner’s photo. “We’ll hang this picture on the wall!” she exclaimed. “My hard work is paying off!”

Mark “Brian” Hilliard of Broken Arrow, OK, had chip lead when 12 players chopped the 6 pm, $100+20 No-Limit Hold’em event on Sunday, November 4, during the “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV”, at the Cherokee Casino, in Tulsa. “I think we are all happy we made money,” says Mark as he collects his winnings.

When the field of players dwindled to 12, they all settled on a chop for $2,186 each. Many of the players are planning on using their winnings for upcoming tournaments.
