Wardak Wins Aussie Mil Bounty Event

Deanna Goodson - 22 Jan 2009

The $1,650 buy-in NLHE bounty event at the Aussie Millions 2009 was played in a partial shootout format. Each table had one bounty tag around his/her neck. The person who knocked the bounty out at the table received $1,000. To add to the fun, the event was in a turbo format with players only receiving 20 seconds to act before receiving a timeout.

449 players entered the event including David Saab, Lee Nelson and actor Michael Vartan. On day one, the event played down to 32 in a regular style and then went to eight, 4-table shootout tables. Day two saw those tables play down to one 8-person final table.

Sitting at the final table were model/astrophysics student Liv Boeree and Neil “Bad Beat” Channing, the reigning Irish Poker Open champion. Both players busted well before the heads-up contest between Ben Delaney and Saidak Wardak. Delaney carried a 2:1 chip lead into heads-up play. However, in the end, Wardak turned the tables on his opponent, staking claim to this unique title and more than $150,000 AUD in cash.
