Announcing Nguyen Poker Challenge V

Brian Thomas - 4 Oct 2008

TULSA, Okla. – Looking for more variety, more events and even more live cash games? The Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge V is set to begin Oct. 30 with all of this and more, including an estimated prize pool of $2.5 million.

"Our local players and poker pros from all over the country look forward to this tournament each year. And we’ve listened to what they’ve been saying and made some changes we feel are really positive. We’ve moved the tournament to our second floor grand ballroom allowing for more live cash games in the poker room, and we’ve shortened the length of the tournament but added more events each day,” said David Stewart, CEO of Cherokee Nation Enterprises, which operates Cherokee Casinos.

The SNPC V runs from Oct. 30 – Nov. 10 and includes an additional event added to each day, totaling 31 events. Events will start at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. each day. Scheduled events are Jack and Jill, Texas Hold ‘em, Omaha Eight or Better, 6 Handed Hold ‘em and H.O.R.S.E., ranging from no limit, pot limit and limit tournaments, with buy-ins ranging from $150-$3,150.  A ladies No Limit Hold ‘em tournament will be held on Nov.9.

The resort’s grand ballroom will house 30 tables for the tournament. Also, players can catch plenty of live action in the resort’s poker room, from $20 buy-in 7-card stud to no limit buy-ins for Pot Limit Omaha and Hold ‘em.

Scotty Nguyen, along with the SNPC IV defending champ, T.J. Cloutier, will return to play in the tournament. Last year’s SNPC IV attracted 5,500 entries, and organizers expect even more for this year’s tournament.

Players can currently earn their seat in the SNPC V with single table satellites. Buy-ins range from $45-$335. The tournament also has five Mega Super Satellite tournaments November 1, 2, 7, and two on November 8, with a $340 buy-in.  Winners of the Mega Super Satellites win a seat into the SNPC V Main Event on Nov. 9, which continues play on Nov. 10.

Player’s can receive discounted hotel rates at the resort with block code “Scot1008.” Rates for players are $79 during the week and $99 Friday and Saturday night. The resort also offers additional rooms at Cherokee Casino Inn, located adjacent to the property.
