TULSA, OK – Eric Richards of Lacey, WA, wins the WPT World Championship Satellite and a $25,000 seat on Tuesday, February 24, during the “Oklahoma State Championship of Poker” at the Cherokee Casino. “It’s surreal! I think I need a couple of days for it all to sink in!”
Eric not only serves punishment to his fellow poker players but also serves our nation as a soldier in the Army. Currently stationed in Lawton, OK, he was unsure if would be able to attend the tournament.
It was an uphill battle to the top of every event yet when it came down to the final two, both Omaha Event winners had to square off. The young soldier stood toe to toe with seasoned pro Brent Carter.
A winner is declared when Brent Carter moves all-in pre-flop with 3-3 and Eric calls with A-10. Eric spikes an ace on the flop to seal the deal. The shell-shocked soldier, Eric, shakes his head in a champion’s daze. He fought a glorious battle to become the last man standing in a war whose wager was a $25,000 WPT seat.
