Van Marcus, winner of the APPT Manila tournament in November 2008, led the pack of eight as the final table of the fifth event of the 2009 Aussie Millions got underway. Marcus held nearly 20,000 more chips than his nearest competitor.
To start the table, tournament officials turned the clock back one level, giving short stacks a bit more wiggle room. Despite that David Morton was still the first one out of the event.
Michael Guzzardi played masterfully, eliminating several players at the table before being KO’d by Jarred Solomon. Guzzardi netted more than $10k for his second final table appearance of the series.
Solomon, for his part, went the distance, taking the title after defeating Van Marcus in heads-up play. Solomon earned $30,380 and a championship ring for his efforts.
