Steve “MrSmokey1” Billirakis took hold of the chip lead at the end of Day 1 of the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at the Horseshoe Hammond, just outside of Chicago, Illinois. He held tight to his lead and didn’t let go, making it all the way to the final table of the tournament.
Billirakis became the youngest player in World Series of Poker history to win a bracelet in 2007 when he won the first event, a $5,000 Mixed Hold’em tourney, at 21 years and 11 days old. He's still the youngest US resident to ever win a WSOP bracelet. (Note: Only Annette Obrestad, the 2007 WSOPE Main Event winner trumps Billirakis. She was one day shy of her nineteenth birthday when she took down the tourney in September '07.)
A Chicago native, Billirakis entered heads-up play against Thomas Koral with nearly twice the amount of chips. A few hands later, he became the youngest person to win a WSOPC title, earning a nut-flush with his Ad , 8d in the hole on the turn. Billirakis, who has yet to turn 23, had some fun, earned a bunch of the money, a WSOPC ring, a $10,000 and a seat to the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event
Here are the final results:
1)Steve Billirakis - $536,287
