Jorgensen Wins £5,000 PLO Event

Deanna Goodson - 30 Sep 2008

On Friday 26 September 2008, Theo Jorgensen, a poker player from Denmark, won his first World Series of Poker Europe bracelet. This makes him the second Danish player to win a WSOPE bracelet in just three events at the London-based poker tournament series. Jesper Hougaard won the first event, an £1,500 NLHE competition nearly a week ago. Jorgensen took down a tough final table in the £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) Tournament in just seven hours. Unlike his fellow countryman, Jorgensen began the day with the chip lead.

However, it wasn’t a cake-walk for the 36 year old Danish poker pro. En route to the win, he eliminated the EPT San Remo champion Jason Mercier and 2008 NBC Heads-Up Champion Chris “Jesus” Ferguson. Then, he claimed The Italian Pirate’s treasure as Max Pescatori hit the rail in fifth place.

In the end, he faced Betfair-sponsored pro Sorel Mizzi in heads-up play. The two battled for an hour and a half before Jorgensen, who finished 8th in last year’s WSOPE Main Event, collected the last pot, the title, the WSOPE bracelet and… the £218,626 first place prize.

Here are the final results:

1) Theo Jorgensen - £218,626
2) Sorel Mizzi - £132,000
3) Eric Dalby - £84,562
4) Erik Friberg - £66,000
5) Max Pescatori - £51,562
6) David Penly - £41,250
7) Chris Ferguson - £33,000
8) Jason Mercier - £26,812
9) Thomas Nyback - £22,688
