PartyPoker Premier League Update – Tony G & Andy Black Secure Finale Seats

Serena DaSilva - 15 Feb 2008

On Day Three at the Party Poker Premier League, Andy Black, the Irish Buddhist poker player, landed in second place after winning his second straight heat. Juha Helppi, who won this event in 2007, started the day in last place and earned no points for busting out first in his match. Annie Duke prevailed in her match, knocking out Victoria Coren and Alex Kravchenko en route to the win. Duke moved into third position in the standings after the third day of play. Tony G busted in a disappointing fifth place in that same match. However, due to his previous two wins, he maintained the lead over Black by just one point.

The Lithuanian born Guoga came back with a vengeance on Day Four of the Premier League event. He defeated the second-place Black to pull ahead of the competition by five full points. His 28 points puts him in a great position to make the finals. By contrast Phil Hellmuth and Juha Helppi remain on life support after busting out in sixth and fifth places in the same match.

Annie Duke had a difficult day herself. The lovely lady, who won the WSOP Tournament of Champions to the tune of $2,000,000 back in 2004, exited on the very first hand when she pitted her pocket queens up against German player Eddy Scharf and his pocket kings. Scharf then ko’d Ian Frazer in fifth place. He was on a roll until David “The Devilfish” Ulliott finished him off in third position. Ulliott took the runner-up slot as Roland de Wolfe won his second match of the series.

On Day 5, Andy Black, Roland de Wolfe and Tony G took to the felt in the same match. De Wolfe hit the rail first after Ulliott, who said he had a hot Valentine’s Day date, put him there. Ulliott busted next so we guess he made his date after all. Tony G called a double all-in between Annie Duke and Alex Kravchenko with a Q,8. After making two pair on the river, Guoga KO’d both players and took a nice chunk of chips into the heads-up match with Black. However, Black prevailed.

Both men had enough points to move into the finals however, so it’s all good. Annie Duke, Roland de Wolfe, Eddy Scharf and Alex Kravchenko are all competing for the two remaining guaranteed slots at the final table. The rest of the players will move onto the next round will have to try their luck with the wild card positions.
