As you already know, Tony G made it to the final table of the Betfair Asian Poker Tour. The talented and talkative Australian, who recently sat down with our own Chris Welsh for an interview, liked his chances, of course. He usually does. Tony G is not a shy type. He never seems to lack in confidence, either. Love him or hate him, Tony G knows he's a good poker player. After his impressive win at the Betfair Asian Poker Tour - yes, folks, he did indeed win - maybe the rest of the world will sit up and take notice.
Of course, it's hard to ignore the burly bloke in general. Tony Guoga (the "G" stands for Guoga) is always chattering. That, along with aggression, is his strategy at the table. It paid off handsomely for Guoga who took home $451,700 for his efforts.
Tony showed a softer side after winning. He gave away half of his prize to charities in Australia and Asia, which will be nominated by the peeps at Befair. As he said, "I want people to know that poker is sport. This is not a large amount compared to what people like Bill Gates give to charity but it is a gesture to show that it's not all about the money, it's about the competition as well."
Joshua Ang, one of two Singaporeans who made it to the final table, took home $233,200 for his second place finish. He also received the Merlion trophy which was initially given to Tony G. Tony handed it over to Joshua so that the trophy could "stay in Singapore." Joshua will bring the trophy back next year. Yes, there will be a second installment of the Betfair Asian Poker Tour. We can't wait!
The final table placings looked like this:
