In the past few months, 22 year old Norwegian poker phenom, Trond Eidsvig, has made two final tables at the EPT. In early September, he took fifth place at the EPT Barcelona tournament. Earlier this month, on November 3rd, he placed fourth – just two behind fellow countrywoman and phenom, Annette Obrestad – at the European Poker Tour’s Dublin stop.

To say that the man is on fire is putting it mildly. Trond Erik Eidsvig can play poker…and play it well. Not that he had to prove anything to anyone, but…Eidsvig showed the poker world that he can reach the top of a major tournament. He began the final table at the Master Classics of Poker (MCOP) at the Holland Casino in Amsterdam with the chip lead and never really looked back.

The first one out of that final table was Tony “The Lizard” Bloom, a British player who has cashed multiple times at the WSOP. The short stack as action got underway, Bloom just couldn’t catch up to former WPT champ, Christian Grundtvig and his pocket kings.

Next out was 20 year old Joris Jaspers. He succumbed to American Michael Martin’s pocket aces. Grundtvig fell next. The Dane couldn’t beat Eidsvig’s pocket cowboys with a pair of hooks. Grundtvig earned nearly $100,000 for his seventh place finish, however.

The American would claim another victim at this point, sending Larcheveque, the sole Frenchman at the final table, to the rails. Martin then took out the Swede, Mikael Norinder, in fifth place and Amsterdam’s own Noah Boeken in fourth. Boeken, who hit the top spot at the 2005 Scandinavian Open, made a questionable all-in with just a 9,7.

As three-handed play got underway, England’s Tristan McDonald was well behind Martin and Eidsvig. He doubled up quickly through Eidsvig on a hand in which he made quads. However, it was too little too late. Eidsvig gave better than he got after knocking the Brit out with his pocket cowboys. Ouch!

Although Martin had the lead as heads-up play began, he wouldn’t hold onto it. On the final hand, Eidsvig was ahead. With a 6,8 in the hole the plucky Norwegian saw a miracle flop that brought him two pair. He checked in the hopes of trapping his opponent. The move paid dividends as Martin called his all-in on the river and watched in horror as Eidsvig showed the nuts.

Here are the final results:

1) Trond Eidsvig (Norway) - $896,912
2) Michael Martin (United States) - $531,961
3) Tristan McDonald  (England) - $312,373
4) Noah Boeken (Netherlands) - $201,032
5) Mikael Norinder (Sweden) - $160,826
6) Erik Larcheveque (France) - $126,805
7) Christian Grundtvig (Denmark) - $95,877
8) Joris Jaspers (Netherlands) - $68,042
9) Tony Bloom (England) - $49,485
