Mrs. Master Takes Down WPT Tournament

Serena DaSilva - 5 Mar 2008

445 players sat down to play in the WPT Celebrity Invitational this weekend. 100 of these were celebs. The last 13 celebrities standing received charitable donations in their name to the organization of their choice. Tom McGowan, a Broadway star who appeared on both “Frasier” and “Everybody Loves Raymond”, was the last celebrity standing. He netted $10k for his charity.

The final table only sat five players instead of the usual six because both Debby Perkins and Beverley Kruskol were knocked out on the same hand. Billy Baxter dispatched this pair of ladies with his pocket pair of ladies. (Ironic, huh?)

The WPT’s own Kimberly Lansing narrowly missed that final table. She busted out in seventh position.

However, the night belonged to Van Nguyen. The wife of Men “The Master” Nguyen, the lovely Van, learned to play at home. Van makes history as the first woman to win a World Poker Tour event of mixed entry. She won $100,000 in cash and a $25,500 entry into the WPT Championship at the Bellagio in April.

These are the final results:

1) Van Nguyen - $100,000
2) Ethan Ruby - $50,000
3) Billy Baxter - $20,000
4) Justin Marchand - $15,000
5) Elias Madias - $10,000
6) Beverley Kruskol - $5,000
