Rousso defeats tough field to win the top spot at the EPT Monte Carlo High Roller Event.
79 of the world’s best players entered the €25,000 EPT Monte Carlo High Roller Event including Bertrand Grospellier, who win the High Roller tournament at the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure earlier this year, Barry Greenstein, Phil Ivey, Tony G and Chris “Jesus” Ferguson. When the final table went from 8 to 4 in about three hours, everyone thought this event would be over quickly.
However, they underestimated the players in the event. Florian Langmann of Germany hung in there for several hours before hitting the rail in fourth place. Then, Tony G lasted five more hours before Randy Dorfman’s Q,9 dispatched him.
This left Dorfman with a 2-1 chip lead against Poker Stars pro Vanessa Rousso. Rousso lengthened his lead, lost it, regained it and then lost it all when Rousso made a nut straight with her 6,7 on the final hand. As she said, “"As long as I got my money in good I thought I had a chance. I'm probably going to go and have a good cry after this!
"I have given 110% over the last three days. A few weeks ago I finished second in the NBC Heads Up Championships and I was happy, but at the end of the day second places are no good. You want to win."
