The main event of the 2010 World Series of Poker isn’t until July 6th but record early sign ups indicate players are eager to attend.
Jack Effel, Tournament Director for the World Series of Poker, recently announced that early registrations for the WSOP main event are logging at a record rate, although it should come as no surprise to those who remember last year’s rush on seats.
The WSOP officlas last year wound up with egg on their face when some 500 players were turned away, money in hand – there simply was no more room. It turned out that letting players choose their own start date (picking one day out of four choices) was a bad idea when most of them opted for the last possible day.
That won’t happen this year, Effel said. “We will be proactive this year in balancing the days and shutting off days as needed to ensure that we don’t run into a situation where players don’t get in. But of course, it is up to the players to make sure that they get signed up and that they get the day they want to play.”
More tables will help, too - the tournament floor will be around 25 percent bigger than last year, with 377 poker tables and about 100,000 square feet of space.
