55 players took to the felt in the fourth day of action at the World Poker Tour championship. By the end of the day 18 would remain. Zvi Shiff busted on the very first hand of play. Mark Newhouse, Tom Schneider, Tim Phan, JC Tran and Isabelle Mercier all hit the rails early on.
Martin de Knijff and Carlos Mortensen, both former WPT champs, did not fare well. Mortensen, who held the chip lead earlier in this tournament (and is the reigning champ in this event), took 38th place this year.
Amir Vahedi, Tom Dwan, Gus Hansen and Robert Mizrachi all survived to move on to Day 5 along with sixteen other players. A double bubble happened with nineteen players left, sending to the rail and one less to the next day of action.
On Day 5, those seventeen were ready to play. Jeff Shulman, editor of CardPlayer Magazine, hit the rails first. Andy Black followed soon after. His defeat came at the hands of Robert Mizrachi. Dwan, who was sporting a bright pink flamingo hat (he lost a prop bet) and Amir Vahedi were among those who made the tournament’s final table, but not the WPT televised one.
When that televised final table begins, Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen will be sitting pretty with the chip lead.
Here’s how the remaining players stack up:
Seat 1 - John Roveto (2,720,000)
Seat 2 - Gus Hansen (8,570,000
Seat 3 - David Chiu -- 6,050,000
Seat 4 - Tommy Le -- 1,950,000
Seat 5 - Cory Carroll -- 6,670,000
Seat 6 - Jeff King -- 1,305,000
