Fry Wins European Poker Tour Budapest Title

Deanna Goodson - 3 Nov 2008

A total of 532 players put up €4,350 to play in the first European Poker Tour event on Hungarian soil.  Taking place at the Sofitel Atrium in the capital city of Budapest, the tournament attracted a star-studded field including Norwegian phenom Annette Obrestad, her fellow Betfair-sponsored pro Sorel Mizzi, Russian-born superstar Alexander Kravchenko and many more. Mizzi and Kravchenko both made money in the event. Mizzi earned €5,320 for his 54th place finish while Kravchenko received double that for his 23rd place finish.

The biggest name at the final table was another Norwegian who first found success online. Lodden, who now resides in Italy and is just 23, had cashed six times previously on the EPT and fell short of the final table, finished in eighth place this time, earning €53,200.

In the end, Ciprian Hrisca, a 35 year old soon to be dad and Romanian national from Bucharest who chose to play in this event due to its relative proximity, faced a 28 year old resident of Nottingham, England resident who is also an online cash game specialist named William Fry in heads-up play. Fry won the day with a pair of hooks, claiming the title and the top prize of €595,839.
