A successful cash game player, Gentleman Ben Roberts was born in Persia but moved to London while still a teenager. When this poker shark in tailored suits sits down in a tournament, he’s still a force to be reckoned with. Roberts has multiple WSOP cashes and has made final tables there as well as on the World Poker Tour. On Friday, August 15, 2008 he headed to the virtual felt to host the 20th event at the FTOPS IX, a $216, shorthanded NLHE contest.
1,850 made it to the event, keeping the guarantee at $400k. 234 players made some moolah in the tourney including Paul Wolfe, Jon “PearlJammed” Turner, and Scott Fischman. Former event winner, ryanbluf, took 193rd place ($340) and SirWatts, recent winner of the WPT Bellagio Cup IV, collected the same amount for 184th place. TheAsian Vampire earned $360 as the 174th finisher while A__theKevlar__2 took down 116th place and $440. CHARLES OAKLEY made it all the way to 25th place before succumbing to the tournament gods’ will. He received $1,640 for his efforts.
ryanghall, winner of the fourth event at this edition of the FTOPS IX, nearly claimed his second title, by making it to the final table. ‘hall’ finished in fifth place, adding $19,000 to his bankroll and some points to his leaderboard standings. The final two players in the event were Ebolarama and ikopuka. Each player was guaranteed more than $50k. However, in the end, Ebolarama earned nearly $30,000 more than his opponent by raking in the final post and claiming the title.
