2,457 players took to the virtual felt on Monday September 8, 2008 as part of the seventh event of the 2008 Poker Stars World Championships of Online Poker (WCOOP). The $215 short-handed Pot Limit Omaha event drew in a bunch of Poker Stars pros including Bill Chen, Katja “Lady Horror” Thater, Luca Pagano, Humberto Brenes and Dario Minieri.
The competition was so fierce that none of those pros made bank in the event and one player typed in the text box during the event that, “Omaha is a sick game.” When the players numbered seven, it took more than an hour to break to the final table. As soon as that table was set, the final six wanted to talk chop. However, HORERogHALM and rkruok didn’t want to hear it.
They were eliminated soon afterwards. When three players remained, Mary 717, mddgfc, kev19 agreed to a deal. Since Mary had the majority of chips in play, she garnered the lion’s share of the remaining cash with $50,000 guaranteed to the remaining players and only $6,000 left for the winner.
In the end, that sum and the bracelet went to Mary 717 as well. On the final hand, she hit the nut straight on the flop, sealing her championship fate.
