627 players emerged from the woodwork to enter the $320 buy-in Stud tournament at PokerStars on September 11, 2008. Stud, a game that requires great patience and the ability to read the board as well as wait for premium starting hands, is not a game for the faint of heart. It’s also not one that is popular with the instant-gratification types. That didn’t stop a ton of pros from entering the event. Unfortunately, many of them left the event almost as soon as they got started.
Gavin Griffin went the furthest amongst the PokerStars pros, taking the 103rd slot. None of PokerStars’ players made any bank in the event. Seven hours after play got underway, the money bubble burst. Sascos hit the rail in 97th place, being the last player to receive no moolah for his efforts.
About three hours later, the final table began. adsonvonmelk sat atop the chip heap with more than 755k. He would stay near the top until three handed play began when Mildred53 and tiffaniejoy circulated the idea of a chop. At this point, he nixed the idea. Less than ten minutes later, he hit the rail. Karma, anyone?
Tifanie and Mildred agreed to split $50,000 and played for the remaining $3600 plus, the title and the bracelet. Then, Mildred hit a hot streak, taking down pot after pot and building up quite the lead over tifaniejoy. On the final hand, Mildred53 dispatched of her opponent with a pair of ducks.
Here are the final standings:
1) Mildred53 — $28,609
2) tiffaniejoy — $25,000
3) adsonvonmelk — $13,637
4) fly high989 — $9,405
5) yhcaep — $5,643
6) SanibelSanta — $4,703
7) AGame18 — $3,762
8) lilletrold — $3,292
