Big Names Win the Weekend Big Ones

Now that the WCOOP is over and there’s about a month until Full Tilt’s next Online Poker Series (FTOPS VI), it was business as usual with the weekend tournaments. At PokerStars, Steve Paul-Ambrose, winner of the 2006 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), bubbled the final table, finishing in tenth place. He was just one of 6,330 entrants in the tournament.

 

The total prize pool was $1,266,000 with $182,000 set aside for the champ. That is until a four-way deal was struck.

Isaac “mjorgenson13” Baron was the winner of the Full Tilt Poker $750,000 Guarantee on Sunday. Baron, who also goes by the moniker “westmenloAA” on other poker sites, is a top internet player. He also fared well at the WPT’s recent Turks & Caicos tournament. He defeated 3,708 other players en route to the championship, securing over $130,000 in prize money along the way. Earlier this year on January 28, 2007, he took down the Sunday Million at PokerStars.

Ultimate Bet saw a spike in its weekly attendance for the $200,000 Guarantee. 937 folks paid to play there, which meant that the site had to pay out a mere $12,600 to make the 200k guarantee. Jared “WacoKidd” Hamby, one of the ‘net’s best players and now a Full Tilt Poker pro, almost sat down at the final table. His tenth place finish was good for $1,600.

 

Jeff “UliKunkel” Garza made it all the way to three-handed play but couldn’t pull out the win. In the end, mnsprout was victorious.
