Smyth Shares Winnings with BoylePoker Freerollers

Deanna Goodson - 15 Dec 2008

50 online poker players have won a 5 percent share of Marty Smyth’s $1 million Poker Million payday at Boylepoker.com. “mmcgenius” collected $9,800 for winning the 305 player freeroll held Thursday Dec. 11 which offered players a chance to win 5 percent of whatever Smyth won at the Poker Million which was televised live on TV last Friday.

Smyth, who is also the current the pot-limit Omaha world champion, made a dramatic comeback from having just two big blinds left to beat fellow countryman Eoghan O’Dea and lift the $1 million top prize. It was the third year in a row he had made the final table of the prestigious event.

"There’s nothing better than the feeling of being able to share in my success with the online players at Boylepoker,” said Smyth. “I’ve had an incredible year and have had tremendous support from poker players everywhere so it’s great to be able to give something back.”

Had Smyth not made the final table of the Poker Million, the players in Marty Smyth’s $50,000 Freeroll would have shared just $1,000 ($200 for the winner down to $16 for 10th) but his unlikely victory means Boylepoker.com now pays out the maximum $50,000.

The top 10 players who made the final table received:

mmcgenius -- $9,800.00
scartdmess  -- $7,350.00
tcbcurnow  -- $4,900.00
BlueJay33 -- $3,430.00
coolafoo  -- $1,960.00
tipladdy -- $1,470.00
alnshks  -- $1,274.00
rifferman  -- $980.00
Iceman2610-- $784.00
Winsheets  -- $784.00

Paul Spillane, head of poker at Boylepoker.com, said, “Christmas has clearly come early for our 50 freerollers. Despite the fact that the $1,000 freeroll ended up costing us $50,000 we’re delighted for Marty who is a great champion. Hopefully now the lucky freerollers can go on and emulate his success with some of their new found wealth!”

Smyth also won the World Open earlier this year for a $250,000 payday and over $800,000 at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. He now has total career earnings of poker tournament of $3,663,939.
